...One afternoon, Professor Chance was alone in the room with the bell, working on a translation at a dusty, makeshift table. His thoughts were deep into what he was doing; going over the characters on what looked like a broken rock. It wasn’t really as much a tablet as it was simply a melon-sized piece of stone with writing carved onto it. Suddenly Chance became aware that something was behind him. He felt as though some stranger was standing there close to him with the intent of doing him in. He became terrified of turning around. His mind was racing with the images of someone or something standing with an ax or sword ready to take his head off.

There was not a sound in the room but Chance could feel the hairs on his neck stand up a bit and shivers ran down his back as his fear mounted. He sat there for what seemed forever not moving, listening for the slightest sound. He wanted to turn his head and look but he couldn’t do it, his nerves began to get the best of him. Finally, he could stand it no more and he jumped forward out of the chair knocking the table over and sending the stone and his tools and notes crashing to the floor. He spun around and stared. Nothing was there.
